2nd Seminar on Tropical and Travel Medicine - ΙFAKARA - ΤΑΝΖΑΝΙΑ

The unprecedented success of the last year’s event, led us to organize the Second seminar on Travel and Tropical Medicine. This intensive course is organized by the Athens University Medical Faculty Master’s on “International Medicine-Health Crisis Management” with the collaboration of the Tanzanian Training Center for International Health in Ifakara Tanzania.

2ο ΣΕΜΙΝΑΡΙΟ ΤΡΟΠΙΚΗΣ ΚΑΙ ΤΑΞΙΔΙΩΤΙΚΗΣ ΙΑΤΡΙΚΗΣ This seminar will focus on:
  • Tropical and Travel Medicine
  • Infections in the Developing World
  • New Emerging Diseases
  • Health of Vulnerable Populations
  • International Development Aid
  • Health and Human Rights

During this course, participants will have the opportunity to participate in the every day life of a district hospital and come to contact with the new health reality of the sub-Saharan Africa, to train themselves on the clinical and laboratory diagnosis of the most frequent diseases of the developing world and follow lectures on tropical medicine, medicine with minimal resources, wilderness medicine as well as subjects of geopolitics and history of Eastern Africa, care of displaced populations, the Zimbabwe cholera epidemics and issues related with the Rwanda Genocide International Court.

The social program includes contacts with local populations, visits to the ecosystem of the Kilombero Valley and the National Parks Udzugwa and Mikumi. The course is open to all the students of the 3d semester of the master’s course. All travel, accommodation, boarding and teaching expenses are covered by the master’s course. Expenses for visas, extra meals excursions and social events are not included.

A number of extra places are also available for Medical Doctors and/or accompanying persons who are interested in participating in this seminar. Fees for MDs are Euro 2000 and Euro 1800 for accompanying persons. Applications must be addressed to the master’s course secretariat before May 1st. All participants must comply with the terms and conditions of the seminar and prove full vaccine and anti malaria coverage.
